Whether or not you’ve stayed committed to your New Year’s resolution to improve your health and fitness in 2019, May is the perfect time to do some “spring cleaning”, when it comes to your body. One of the best ways to energize, heal, and strengthen your body is by participating in Yoga Sculpt. The term “yoga” may bring images to mind of serene music, deep breathing, and extended posing, but Yoga Sculpt is a different experience altogether.

One of the best feelings in the world is the heart-pounding satisfaction of an intense aerobic workout. But high-impact workouts can cause unnecessary strain on joints and muscles. One of the best things about Yoga Sculpt is that it combines the constant gentle motion of yoga with the heart-healthy benefits of cardio. Those who are familiar with traditional yoga will find similar poses with extra props and weights added to raise the intensity level.

Centered Cardio

Yoga Sculpt is unique when compared with other cardio exercise classes in that it places special emphasis on breath and emotional wellness. Classes are centered around connecting your mind with your body so that both feel stronger after the class. The constant and fluid motions combined with deep breathing, intense strengthening exercises, and fast-paced movement create the perfect workout that will help you burn calories up to 24 hours.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

A Comfortable Middle Ground

Those who are passionate about fitness are sometimes forced into two categories: yoga or cardio. Those who like intense workouts may steer clear of yoga because they feel the exercise will be insufficient. Likewise, those who love yoga may shy away from trying other forms of exercise. Yoga Sculpt is an incredible hybrid that bridges the gap between the two. This yoga group exercise class focuses simultaneously on the strengthening, stretching, and fluid motion of yoga while pushing the body to the limits and elevating the heart rate for a fulfilling workout.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Detox

Most Yoga Sculpt classes use heat as an added benefit. Those who take the class should be prepared to sweat! There are numerous benefits to this type of exercise. Sweating releases toxins which are an unavoidable part of modern life. This detoxification not only helps the body to stay healthier, but it also improves the mindset by releasing stress from the body.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Flexibility Within the Class

One bonus of this type of fitness class is that it is easily customizable for each person. Although participants are usually expected to have several yoga classes under their belt before enrolling in the class, the workout can be changed to fit anyone from a beginner to someone more advanced. Participants can modify poses and change weight amounts to perfectly customize the experience.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

A Whole Body Experience

This yoga fitness class is based on providing a whole body strengthening and healing experience. The classes have three basic elements. The first is strengthening which is done using a variety of poses and weights. These strengthening exercises target all areas of the body including the core, the arms, and the legs. The second element is traditional yoga with increased intensity. The added intensity helps the body to detox without taking away from the healing aspects of the poses. Finally, Yoga Sculpt focuses on cardio which is good for the health, helps the body to regulate blood sugar, improves the lungs, and strengthens bones.

Yoga Sculpt is the perfect hybrid exercise class that will challenge even the most experienced yoga student while being accessible for everyone who is willing to break a good sweat. With traditional yoga elements, exercises that target all of the different parts of the body, and periods of high-intensity cardio, it has a healthful effect on the entire body. Those who are looking for a challenging workout that also focuses on healing the body, this is the perfect place to start. The Yoga Sculpt classes at Santa Barbara Athletic Club will do all of this and more.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Meet our yoga instructors!

Get to know our yoga instructors Adam and Sean.

[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”orange”][vc_column_text]Adam is a passionate advocate for personal transformation and well-being in body, mind and spirit. Through his certified work and studies in the areas of fitness, yoga, nutrition, meditation, and the arts – he aims to bring an intense yet fun approach to experiencing a greater sense of peace and purpose in one’s life.

We asked Sean, what brought him to SBAC?

Sean:I originally joined SBAC because it was a clean environment with good equipment and an outdoor pool. As the months/years passed, the club increasingly became a happy place for me. There is a sense of community; I’ve made good friends, and the staff are friendly and helpful.

After a few years of weight training and adding muscle, I began to lose range of motion, and experienced some pain in the back/shoulder/hip regions. I tried yoga as a solution and – after committing to practice for a month – fell in love with the results. Range of motion increased, pain decreased, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. Mood, sleep, immune system and digestion all improved; I could feel my body healing from within.

As the saying goes, when yoga met strength, yoga sculpt was born. Sculpt is the perfect blend of yoga, resistance training, and cardio. Adding free weights to yoga poses and flows intensifies the experience, in a good way! Not to mention the heat – the warm room helps the muscles and joints  loosen, while enhancing the sweat and detox.

Having experienced the benefits, I was compelled to learn to teach Sculpt, and share this practice with others, which I now love doing! I’m passionate about the practice and I love my students. I hope to see you in class sometime soon! Namaste.”[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”orange”][vc_column_text]Get to know Adam and Sean personally by attending one their classes.
