That’s why Swell Santa Barbara has created a December Fitness Challenge: 12 days of stress-reducing workouts designed to help you stay active, healthy, and stress-free during this festive time.

Our December Fitness Challenge is more than a smattering of random workouts—it’s a strategic and holistic approach to wellness. Our goal is to support you in managing stress and maintaining a sense of balance throughout the holiday season. By incorporating a variety of exercises tailored to reduce stress and boost mood, we aim to help you feel energized and refreshed as you welcome the new year.

The Benefits of Stress-Reducing Workouts

Exercise has long been known to be a powerful tool for reducing stress and improving overall well-being. Physical activity releases endorphins, the body’s natural mood elevators, which can help combat feelings of anxiety and tension. By participating in our December Fitness Challenge, you can experience firsthand the transformative effects of regular exercise on your mental health.

The 12 Days of Fitness 

You have enough to worry about during this busy season. These 12 days of suggestions are a no-obligation, do-it-yourself way to stay mindful and focused on your goals. From gentle yoga flows that focus on deep breathing and stretching to invigorating cardio sessions that get your heart pumping, there’s something for everyone and every fitness level. If you need, our experienced trainers can help guide you through each workout, ensuring that you can safely and effectively achieve your fitness goals.

Let’s get to it. 

Day 1 — Yoga Flow for Serenity

Start your journey with a gentle yoga flow to stretch and relax your body, setting the tone for peace and mindfulness. Focus on slow, controlled movements to calm your mind and ease into the season.

Day 2 — Cardio Blast

Get your heart pumping with a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) session. Burst through quick, intense intervals of cardio exercises like jumping jacks or mountain climbers, followed by short rest periods to ignite your metabolism and boost your energy.

Day 3 — Mindful Meditation

Dedicate 10 to 15 minutes to meditation. Find a quiet space, focus on your breathing, and let go of any stress or distractions. Use this time to center your mind and reset for the busy days ahead.

Day 4 — Strength Training for Stress Relief

Day 11 — Total Body Strength Circuit

Challenge your whole body with a circuit of compound exercises like squats, deadlifts, and push-ups. Move through each exercise with purpose, feeling the burn as you build total body strength.

Day 12 — Festive Finale: Full Body Burn

End your 12-day journey with a full-body workout, combining everything you’ve learned so far. Do a mix of cardio, strength, core, and flexibility exercises. Celebrate your hard work with a sense of accomplishment and a holiday treat (healthy, of course!).
